Installing a renovation damper

  1. Installing a renovation damper If there happens to be a dysfunctional damper in place, remove it from the frame. If a cast iron damper is stuck in the closed position, you can break it by dropping an iron rod attached to a rope onto it from the top of the chimney. Point the opening or cover it using a covering plate.
  2. Select a sound joint and mark out the width of the frame
  3. Use the rock drill bit included in the package to carefully drill the joint open to the width/depth of the frame. Try inserting the frame until it slides easily into place.
  4. Open the small metal wings* on the sides of the frame to an approx. 45° angle and put the frame in place. Use sealant to lift the front edge of the frame to prevent any possible rainwater from coming into the interior room. Fill any possible openings with the joint mortar included in the package. Then insert the interior parts of the damper and attach the front plate.

Note! All smoke dampers manufactured by Polar Metalli are also available as renovation dampers.
